Pendleton City Council Update

Local Boy Scouts were in attendance on Jan 17 to earn their Citizenship in the Community merit badges. Mayor John Turner knew why the scouts were in attendance due to his being an Eagle Scout. Councilor Paul Chalmers quipped that there were also merit badges available for snow removal.

Pendleton Firefighter/Paramedic Jeremy Keene was promoted to Lieutenant at the meeting. Keene has been a member of the Pendleton Fire Department for 20 years. Keene previously served Pendleton as a reserve firefighter and a firefighter/paramedic.

Local business owner Jim Swearingen of J & B Auto spoke in support of the amended Manufactured Home Code, saying that he “likes” it. The code hadn’t been updated since 1984 according to Council President Neil Brown. The amendment was unanimously approved.

The council also voted unanimously to adopt new goals for 2017-19. These goals are to “increase economic development activities, increase availability of housing for all levels of income,” and “facilitate development of quality industrial, commercial, and residential lands and properties.”
