Winter Weather is Slowing Business on Main Street

According to many Main Street businesses the recent weather has put a damper on business. Many businesses who participated in our poll said that in the cold weather most people just plain don’t want to leave their houses if they don’t have to.

Of the 17 businesses polled, 15 identified weather as a contributing factor to decreased business. According to Blue Mountain Creations owner Cindi LeGore, the weather has affected both deliveries and foot traffic. According to Calico Country Florist owner Cheryl Stewart, the weather has impacted not only deliveries of flowers to the florist shop from suppliers, but also deliveries from the shop to customers.

The exceptions to this trend are Zimmerman & Co. True Value and Ooh La La Salon. According to owner Jimmy Naughton, Zimmerman’s has sold between eight and ten tons of de-icer. Ooh La La Salon reported that they have dedicated customers and that the weather has only been a problem when the customer is over one hour away.

According to the National Weather Service the next seven days may contain rain and freezing temperatures, but Pendleton is not predicted to see any snow. Pendletonians seem ready for this winter to be finally over.
